Chapter Seven

Tristan ripped up the street in the Ford Explorer, the illumination from the light posts aligning the curb playing on him and Eureka’s faces. Looking over at her he could tell that she was worried about their son, and rightfully so. Things may not go as smoothly as Fear made it sound once he got to the designated location. And if they didn’t it was a very good chance that neither he nor Kingston would make it back alive.

Tristan reached over and grasped his wife’s hand. Lifting her hand, he kissed her tenderly on the knuckles and caressed her hand with his thumb. She looked at him and smiled. For the next couple of minutes the SUV was silent as the lovers were wrapped up in their thoughts. Finally, Tristan decided to break the ice.

“You still haven’t given me your answer,” Tristan looked from the windshield to his wife.

“What’re you talking about?” Eureka’s forehead crinkled.

“You neva told me who you chose outta me and homeboy back there,” he threw his head over his shoulder.

“You right. I’ve gotta make a choice. I already know who I want so I don’t even gotta think about it.”

Tristan swallowed the lump of nervousness in his throat, his heart beat fast inside of his chest. He wanted to know who his wife had chosen to spend the rest of her life with. Although he felt that it should be him because he was her husband, he knew how she felt about the pint sized killa, even though he was the nigga that murdered her father.

Seeing Eureka peeling her lips open to say something, he stopped her by holding up his hand. “Hold up. I don’t want chu to say anything, I’d rather read it.” Tristan popped open the glove box and grabbed a slip of paper and an ink pen. He smacked the glove box back shut and passed the items to his wife. She took them. Holding the small slip of paper down on her thigh, she jotted down something and folded the paper up, stashing it inside of her ninja fit.

“You’ll get your answer once we complete this mission.” She told her husband.

“But what if…”

“Shhhhh,” she hushed him, holding her finger to his lips. “Like I said, once this mission is complete, you’ll know who I chose to be with soon enough.”

With that having been said, Eureka focused her attention out of the front passenger side window. The scenery of the streets reflected on the glass window. Tristan looked back and forth between her and the windshield, heart thumping in his chest. Curiosity got the best of him and he was constantly wondering who Eureka had chosen to be with. If it wasn’t him then it would crush his heart, but if it was him then he’d feel like the happiest man on earth…just like he did on the day Eureka said yes when he proposed.

Tristan took a deep breath and nodded, saying, “Alright. Okay.”

Tristan coasted down the side street of the building that he and Eureka had planned to invade.
